L1a: Invited Lectures – Origins: From Stars to Life
The session timespan includes a 15-min introduction by the session Chair.
Molecules in the Interstellar Medium: Chemical Evolution from Interstellar Clouds to Protoplanetary Disks
Centro de Astrobiología CSIC/INTA, Spain
I will present our actual state of knowledge of the different physical and chemical conditions of molecular clouds from observations with ground based telescopes and space platforms. Particular attention will be devoted to the chemical processes involved in the growth of the complex molecules in the gas phase and in the surface of grains.
Terrestrial Planet Formation: a New Perspective
Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur, France
I will review numerical models of terrestrial planet formation. The outcome of the models is very sensitive to the orbital architecture of the giant planets. The scenario that leads to best reproduction of the real terrestrial planets system invokes large-scale migrations of Jupiter and Saturn in the gaseous proto-planetary disk, in order to sculpt the distribution of solids in the inner solar system, before the formation of the terrestrial planets.
