Information-rich sequences from replicating systems

Irene Chen

Harvard University, United States of America

The complexity of a replicating system is limited by the amount of information it can carry. Could a non-enzymatic system carry enough information to propagate a ribozyme? Could chemical mechanisms alone drive an increase in complexity? Using experiments and modeling, we describe how prebiotically relevant chemical mechanisms might enable the emergence of information-rich sequences.
